Education & Community

The HSO provides energetic educational programs and activities for young people, including the Young Artists Concert and the 4Kids Music Concert.  The Educational Outreach program promotes diversity and inclusion in symphonic music for generations to come, and the HSO Conductor Camp is designed to educate the next generation of extraordinary conductors.

Unlike most competitions for young musicians, the HSO's Young Artists Competition, does not limit the applicants to a list of solo pieces, but gives them the opportunity to choose, opening the door for whole new world of experiences and learning possibilities, making it didactically and more efficient for the mentors and creativetly more interesting for the young players, giving them the opportunity of exploring their own style and personality with no limits to grow.

The 4Kids Music Concert embraces thousands of kids in the area. It invites them to a tridimensional music experience where they can touch and try orchestral instruments, conduct the orchestra, interact with the musicians and Music Director and even decide how the music is going to end or not. It is a magical and powerful first encounter with live music for kids and adults.

The Conductor Camp is an initiative brought to the HSO by its Music Director Alexandra Arrieche. She developed this Camp specially for her Brazilian friends and inspired by the lack of opportunities they encounter in her country. The Camp was a huge success on her first edition and started developing to a full dimensional project involving, career managing, creative programming, rehearsal techniques, and audition training. 2019 was its first time the HSO hosted this Camp and it we are looking forward for its second edition.
