YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION

A professional concert experience for emerging talents.

Our Young Artists are empowered to develop their own unique, musical voice.

Unlike most music competitions for youth, the HSO's Young Artists Competition, does not require the applicants to adhere to a list of solo pieces, but gives them the opportunity to choose so they may discover their own style and personality as they grow without limitations.

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce the 26th Young Artist Competition

​Open to participants up to 18 years old.

Residents of Clark County (NV)

The competition will be divided into two divisions:

Junior Division for participants up to 14 years old

Senior Division for participants up to 18 years old.

In each division the solo musicians, duets and small ensembles may be selected in each of the three categories: Strings, Wind/Brass/Percussion ensembles and Piano/Voice.

• ONLINE AUDITIONS: All candidates must submit the material by February 15th, 2021.

Prizes

• The HSO Jury will choose up to six winners, two in each category plus Honorable Mentions, if applicable and a People’s Choice Award. 

• Due to COVID-19, there will be no Founder’s Prize in 2021. 

• All performances will be livestreamed. The orchestral accompaniment might be reduced to a piano

Guidelines

​

1. Works selected for performance must be memorized; 

2. The audition piece should be the piece you intend to perform at the concert; Orchestral accompaniment must be available for purchase or rental;  

3. All auditions must be performed with piano accompaniment and performers are responsible for providing and rehearsing with the accompanist prior the audition; 

4. If a candidate needs an accompanist, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra can provide names of competent pianists;  

5. Upload on YouTube.

6. A copy of the music performed must sent to the judges with the application;

7. Videos will be limited to 10 minutes;

8. At the Judges' discretion, a winner MAY NOT be selected for a given category and/or multiple winners may be selected for a given category;  

9. Specific movements will be selected in light of the program balance, variety and flow; 

10. Final selection of music will be at the discretion of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra.

Video Uploads guidelines: 

1. Upload your video on YouTube; 

2. The video should be on “Public mode”; 

3. Tile should have: Your Name – Your Instrument – HSO Young Artists Competition/Audition; 

4. The description should have: Name of the piece you are performing, Name of the Composer, HSO website: www.hendersonsymphony.org #LIVEHSO

5. The link should be copied on your application form.
